Samburu Game Reserve

Samburu National Reserve covers an area of 165 square km (64 square miles). The reserve is located in the Samburu District, North of the Equator. A desert and semi-desert region with a dry and warm climate characterize it. Samburu is a vast, remote, pristine wilderness and a unique wildlife conservation haven. Samburu Reserve is among the best wildlife reserves in Kenya and Africa. It is well known for its abundance of wildlife, including the unique Samburu Special Five: (Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffe, Gerenuk and the Beisa Oryx.) It is also home to a population of about 900 elephants. If you enjoy big cat safaris, Samburu is a top destination for several big cats, including Cheetahs, Lions and leopards. You are likelier to spot leopards and other predators in Samburu than most Kenyan parks. Wild dogs are also popular in the park.

Over 450 bird species have been recorded in the reserve, making it at the top of the list for avid bird watchers. Samburu is surrounded by other wildlife conservancies, which include Kalama, Namunyak & Westgate Community. Ewaso Nyiro River is the only water source dependent on the survival of all wildlife animals in the reserve. You will spot schools of hippos and floats of crocodiles in the river while on a game drive. It is one of the famous destinations in East Africa.
